Airman in Need Update: Some Good Progress
After an hour long visit with my Commander, Squadron Executive Officer, and Chaplain with my Airman and the three family members that arrived Tuesday afternoon we got some good news. The new mother is now coherent and is communicating effectively. She's still not out of the dog house yet but things are improving.
My Airman's son's status hasn't changed. He's stable but isn't 100% as far as life support goes.
At this point, enough money has been raised to cover the cost of the extended family's hotel room. The entire family (Airman included) is incredibly proud and isn't asking for help; sometimes people would rather struggle on their own than get the help that people are more than will to give. Aubree and I slid in and out of their hotel to put the credit card on file with them. Now I just have to figure out where they rented the car from and we'll pick up the tab for that. Other needs are coming up though; for example, the need for much smaller diapers than were already purchased for their son.
Your donations are going to go a long way here considering the expected extended stay the newborn will have in the hospital; food, gas (children's hospital is some 15 miles away), and other incidentals. The high flexibility of donated money allows us to provide the relief directly when and where it's needed.
I appreciate all the help that has poured in over the past twenty-four hours the prayers, thoughts, and donations are doing more good than I could have hoped at this point. Please continue to give as we can't see the light at the end of the tunnel just yet.
Thanks,
Chris Short, SSgt, USAF
